Random Marsh Scenes

Below are a few random photographs, no particular order, from around the ACE marshes. For one reason or another I put them aside to publish at a later date. It’s the later date 😆.

The first is an impressive sight. There are Wood Storks, Roseate Spoonbills, Tricolored Herons, Snowy Egrets, American Alligator, and some I’ve missed. No idea how many since they were constantly on the move. Loud, chaotic, and spectacular.

Next is a Snowy Egret that was pushing along through the thick Pluff mud. Sticky stuff, but I noticed his yellow slipper feet were perfectly clean. Snowy Egrets like to be in a crowd, as long as it’s not other Snowy.

Roseate Spoonbills, especially one posing are hard to pass up. They are usually a 10 month resident here, though a few young ones might stay all year. When they do decided to migrate it’s all of about 4 hours south.

No marsh scenes are complete without the big guys. No one really knows how many are here. However people are always surprised when they see photographs with 50 – 100 sprawled along water ways. When we first visited the Lowcountry I was shocked to find them laying all around in places shared with people. Not so much now.

In another month or so we won’t be able to shoot these scenes until early spring. We might as well get as many as we can now to keep busy during this winter.
